out of office

Just a note to let everyone know I will be out of the studio for a few days, returning the middle of next week.  The kids and I are heading to Alabama for a few days to visit Toby's parents and my mom (happy birthday mom!)...

Hopefully we will avoid the bad weather (not likely) and I can get my tan back (less likely).

Have a great rest of your week and be safe!

Yesterday I was able to see two precious brides, one for a meeting and one for her wedding at the beautiful Westin Savannah Harbor.

Raven & I met up with Brett and Laura at the Roundhouse for a walk-through with their amazing RH liason, Kelly.  Their wedding is fast approaching and it is just so much fun seeing all of the details come together.  We all had some pretty fun ideas yesterday and it was such a treat to see Brett amongst all of those engines.  I was really impressed to learn that the staff at the RH will move the engines to where you want!  And believe me, Brett wanted!  ;)  I was wondering if he would ask for the Thomas play table to be brought out too.  ;)  Mac is going to LOVE these wedding pictures.  btw Laura showed up to our meeting with a HUGE surprise.

Then after a little playdate with Raven, I was off to the Westin for Leah and Matt's wedding.  I haven't known this sweet couple very long, but I am already attached to them in a very special way. What a treat it was for me to share their day with these two and their loving families!

This week finds me back at the gym (I am still down 3 pounds) and getting us all ready to head south to visit Grammy.  The kids are so excited and other than the drive, I am too!!

At some point I HAVE to get them back on a schedule.  We had friends over Saturday night (thanks Katie and Charlie, I hope I didn't embarrass myself too much) and after a few drinks, a crazy game of apples to apples and wathcing Phelps take another gold, they left fairly late and would you know it, my kids were STILL up and stayed up past 1:00!!  Most mornings my house looks like a Frat house the morning after.  I'm talking kids passed out on the sofa, trash everywhere and pictures falling off of the walls.  I have to get a hold of this situation and retrain there brains for school!! (And mine)

I hope your Monday is as lovely as my cup of coffee (or coffee baba).

Laura's

The perfect moment is just that; a moment. It’s not staged or posed.  It doesn’t require a thousand spotlights and it won’t be made better by someone barking instructions about what angle to hold your head. As a photographer, I don’t just take pictures, I capture moments.

Stepping in front of the camera can be intimidating.  Most people don’t spend their days followed by a photographer, so when it’s time to for a professional photography session it’s easy to get nervous.  The best moments rarely come when you are nervous. I understand this and so I take a low key approach to everything I shoot.  Whether it is your wedding day or a studio session, I do all that I can to make you relaxed and comfortable.  I want your true self to come through in the pictures and I help to facilitate this by putting you at ease. During engagement, bridal, wedding day, maternity, family and personal sessions, I work to create a fun atmosphere where you can enjoy yourself.  I’ve had many of my clients tell me they were apprehensive about their session but in the end were surprised at how much fun they had!

Weddings are truly my passion because of all the moments.  A wedding is a celebration in honor of two people who fell in love!  How cool is that?!  Be it a traditional church ceremony followed by a massive reception or a small beach elopement, I love the celebration of love.  There are so many moments to capture and I try to do it in the most unobtrusive way.  The anticipation of the ceremony, the tears of joy, the loving embraces, the knowing glance and the silly dancing are more likely to occur when you don’t realize there is someone with a camera trying to capture them. Photographing a wedding is always a tremendous honor because I get to be there during those moments and I want to make sure I capture them perfectly.

And what about those almost perfect moments?  The gentle image of your first kiss on the altar would be perfect if your nephew didn’t jump in the background as the shutter clicked, finger up his nose.  Situations like that do pop up from time to time, but luckily, I also have photo editing tools and experience so I can turn the almost perfect picture into the perfect one.

Finally, I want to work with you to make sure you get all the moments captured.  I love suggestions and some of my favorite places to shoot were originally suggestions by clients. I want to get to know the people I am photographing. I want to work with you before, during and after to ensure your pictures will forever conjure up memories that help you re-live those perfect movements.

Please feel free to call or email me at any time. As a mom, wife, daughter and friend, I am so blessed to have so many awesome moments in my life captured in pictures.  It’s a gift that I want to be able to share with you.

Momma Crisp's is in deep PINK, a tribute to Whitney's serisouly cute pink and black wedding this Spring.

PPS I have no idea why I am calling her momma Crisp other than the fact that I 100% adore her!

"If your life was a picture, what would it be?  Would it be posed and
perfect, or would it tell the story of your moments...the real moments
that define who you are?  I believe life's most precious moments are
the ones that are missed with a blink or a sneeze.  Little girls'
dresses caught up in their ruffled panties, brides taking a calming
breath before entering the church, a new dad wondering at how small a
newborn's toenails are.  The picture of my life would be a collage -
it would have scraped knees and nose-picking, worm farms and lizard
earrings, beach trips and Mickey ears.  Let me help you tell your
story - it may be filled with color or black and white; it may be wild
or laid back; it might be traditional or on the edge...these details I
can't say.  The specifics are as varied and individual as you are.
What I can say is this, as your photographer, the pictures I take
will tell the story you want told - the story of who you are."

Dear me

Teresa,

WZUP?  I saw you at the gym earlier, and for a sec I could've sworn I was daydreaming!  I haven't seen you there in FOREVER!!  You haven't changed a bit, literally!  I won't  tease you about what you were wearing or those noises you were making on the treadmill, I'm just so proud of you and more than a little shocked!  I noticed you got glasses...  Smart!  You might think about getting a sport strap to keep them on as I noticed you constantly messing with them, but whatever!

Were you in a hurry tonight?  Cause you were only there for like, 30 minutes.  No big deal.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I was checking you out in the mirrors and well, um, I'm just glad you are back at the gym.

See you there tomorrow!! ??

my bio

It has been brought to my attention lately that my website bio is old.  Really, really old.  Not only that, it is just no longer original.  I have found or have been shown 4 other photographer's bios that sound familiar.  It's likely a coincidence, but nonetheless, I just gotta be me!

I_Gotta_Be_Me[1]

Here is a blurb from my oh so stale bio I wrote 4 years ago....

....There's no huge production when I arrive, and I am not a director. By this I mean that I will not pose every shot and stage every moment. I capture what actually happens. I do realize that some posed shots are necessary, but overall I will tell your story not produce it...

And here's one Raven found last week....

....With my style of a photography I am kinda in the backgrounds capturing moments that you may not even realize. Of course some have to be posed, but the most candid are the most memorable in my book.....

and another....

me....

I love taking pictures of babies, brides and everything in between! Emotion is found in the smallest, often unnoticed details.   I feel it is my job to see these fleeting moments, and my extreme pleasure to capture them for you. I love to tell stories with my camera. I am the photographer that will show up when you hire me. I work very simply, without a lot of equipment and lights. There's no huge production when I arrive, and I am not a director. By this I mean that I will not pose every shot and stage every moment. I capture what actually happens. I do realize that some posed shots are necessary, but overall I will tell your story not produce it.

another that I found....

I truly enjoy photographing everything from Maternity to Eternity and any of life's memories in between. My style is creating candid images by discreetly capturing all ranges of emotion, personality, and style. My approach is allowing an event, wedding, or portrait session to unfold spontaneously. I am not a photographer that exerts control by forcing staged poses. I'd rather document what actually happens, not direct it. However, I realize certain shots are neccessary to pose.

seewhatimean?  I don't fault these photographers, we have similar jobs and obviously similar approaches, but I am me and I don't like to think I fit into a cookiecutter category of photographers.  So this is where I need your help.

Here's the challenge.  Think you know me?  Think you know memories n more?  If so, then you could win a FREE mini session (next mini session event will be held in October on Tybee or HHI).  Turns out I am not feeling terribly creative and have a bad case of the lazies so I am asking you for help!

Here are the rules.  Your submission needs to be a minimum of 400 words or as longas you like and ORGINAL!  Make it fun, funny, FABtastic, whatever.  If yours jumps out at me and makes me laugh (most importantly) then you win!  Deadline Monday August 18th at 12:00 PM.  That's a week, so get to writin'!

What you get..  1 free mini session (location and times TBA) to include 20 minute session and ownership of all images on high-resolution CD.   This can be of you, your kids, pet, neighbor, whatever!

E-mail your original submission to me @ memoriesnmore@bellsouth.net , I'll share them all here and even ask for your input!

Can't wait to read whatcha write!

Too lazy to write my own,
